If you're buying a guitar build kit - you'll need this book too...
Like the title says, this book teaches how to put together guitar kits. It covers everything you need to know about assembling the kit to installing the electronics. The author also references pieces of his previous book, How To Setup Your Guitar Like A Pro: An Easy Guide for Beginners when explaining how to install the strings and fine-tune the guitar. You may be wondering why you need this book when such kits come with instructions anyway. Well, these kits often come with vague instructions that don't offer a lot of tips and insight into how to do the work and don't offer much in the way of troubleshooting for if things go wrong. The instructions usually seem to be geared towards experienced builders. The author of this book assumes that you've never put a guitar together from a kit before and accordingly lays out the instruction in a more rudimentary fashion. He also includes a ton of colour photos to put the words into perspective. The book can also be used by those who simply want to do some basic modifications to their guitar such as change out the pick-ups or route out a cavity for a new one. There's also detailed instruction on how to install Floyd Rose tremolo systems which probably wouldn't be included in a generic guitar kit instruction pamphlet. This book is highly recommended as a supplement to whatever instruction material comes with your guitar build kit.

full of great and practical stuff, especially the part about setting up a guitar; a good investment
I built a Strat-type guitar from a kit - it was easy and turned out good except for the fact that I was unable to get it to play well. this book has a detailed, step-by-step and extensive guide to setting up the truss rod, bridge, nut, saddles, everything -- even an overly thorough instruction on how to put on guitar strings, which I ignored as I already have a very functional system of stringing I learned from a pro long ago that doesn't involve bending the strings into z-shapes near the tuners and other weird stuff. but a good and handy book, also has a section on how to properly place and drill the holes for the bridge if your kit doesn't have pre-drilled spots for the bridge screws. this book lives up to its advertised claims and I highly recommend it to anyone getting into building or setting up guitars as it is all full of practical knowlege and minimal but adequate theoretical info to help understand how and why this stuff works. my Strat plays great now, and stays in tune.

Not a book so much as a pamphlet
Take out the 10 pages of front matter like table of contents and the last 4 pages (blank for notes) and this 64 page book is down to 50. There are a couple of pages of copied google searches (uses because on paper the links are not clickable). Every new section begins on a new page with the last page of the previous section often with only a sentence or two and mostly blank. In all, I counted about 15 actual pages of written content, which is mostly pictures. You will find as much useful information on YouTube in a few seconds and in color with live video. This pamphlet is light on information.

It is very informative and helpful
I use it as a guide for my guitar building kits. Can’t wait to finish it, but as the book says, the more time you spend the happier you will be with the results.

Not a bad read for a novice guitar builder
Gave me some information I was looking for. Not a bad read for a novice guitar builder. Lacked some photos and information I would have liked.

Extremely high level and basic.
This is a very basic book, something you could probably read cover to cover in under an hour. For anyone who has spent even a few hours watching any of the many videos online relating to guitar kit builds, you’ll almost certainly know everything this book covers. It’s also very light on general advice in terms of avoiding common mistakes and doesn’t really go into ‘finishing’ other than to give a high level dictionary definition of polyurethane, nitrocellulose etc. I couldn’t really recommend this book, you are better off doing a bit of online research and watching a handful of videos posted by talented luthiers.

A big help.
I bought a basic Tele style kit that came without instructions & picked this download to help with the detail work. It was a big help but did skip through some sections. The photos. aren't great but the book contains all you need to complete a project. I'm not sure there's enough info. to build a guitar from scratch but that isn't the intention. It was right for my needs & I can recommend it to any first time kit builder.

Instructions from a real Pro
I got this because the instructions I got with my kit were vague and this is my first build and I was clueless. Book came fast and read it fast and I’m so thankful I got it. It’s pretty much laid out step by step which is awesome, it has quite a bit of info and tips and things to look for. My build came together really well thanks to this book. Thank you Jonny Blackwood! I've got all your books and now I’m excited to do another guitar build ! Bring on the Fretwork!

Building a Kit Guitar then get this book.
This book is far more informative than any instructions that come with you Guitar Kit.It teaches so much more in plain language and great images. It's the best I've found so far.

Content is readily available on YouTube.
This book only contains build information and set up information that is readily available to view on YouTube. Not very useful to me.Regards Keith Riley.
