Absolutely perfect except for one major flaw (might just be on mine)
Well I've been going through Oxo can openers like they were out of style, absolutely hating them but "supposedly" they are really good and they cut the can in such a way that they don't leave a sharp edge. However, they cut like cr*p and instead leave little slivers of steel which is even worse. And needless to say I've never actually cut myself on a can lid. Not counting the old Mickey's green bottles (that's a little inside joke for a special few who have had them). So just for kicks I bought this and it cut the lid like butter just like I remembered as a child and easy as pie!I thought it was perfect.Except then I realized my thumb was bleeding. So a piece of the forged steel or else it's coating left the an edge of the sharpener (and not the part that is supposed to be doing the cutting) sharp as a razor, and right where your thumb hits when you twist the knob.I keep trying to remind myself to keep my thumb out of the way of the sharp bit and always forget. Even when I remember I still hit it because it's exactly where you'd expect your thumb to hit and it does.I also keep thinking I'll just pull out a file or my grinder and grind the sharp edge. Until then, watch your thumb. Though I have a feeling it might just be mine as no one else has mentioned it. I'll try and post a picture.

buy Made in USA
main reason I bought it is after buying several other can openers made else where in the world they would open maybe 5 or 6 cans before they quit working. either gears would strip or the blade would no longer cut the metal. bought 1 for $45 it opened 12 cans before it went bad at least this one so far has gotten many more than that

A real disappointment.
Not what you would expect--not a good product. I chased this issue for a while--trying to find a decent hand can opener and wanting to locate one of the (real) original Swing-Away models. It was educational--Swing-Away is now made in China, while the original designer in the U. S. started selling a knock-off of his own can opener, calling it the "EZ-Duz-It." Believing what I was told--that this product was developed because the Chinese were doing such a lousy job of making the Swing-Aways--I bought one. Well, folks, here's the bitter truth. The Chinese Swing-Away isn't quite as good as the original article, but it's a whole lot better than the come-lately American alternative. Don't buy an EZ-Duz-It--mine locked up in a couple of weeks, won't turn at all, and never did make a clean cut. The Chinese Swing-Away is far better--not perfect, but far better.

I love this can opener
Finally, a can opener that works longer than a couple weeks! I love this can opener. I thought I would have to go electric because I was so sick of buying $6 to $10 can openers that stopped working. So I put in the amazon search bar " can opener that works" and this one came up. Thank You Lord! The info on the item is interesting, - the original inventor is now making the can openers in the US again. It seems another company took the production to China, and after that, the sales went down the tube because the can openers no longer worked.

After going through several crappy can openers I remembered the old man going on ...
I worked for John J. Steuby years ago. After going through several crappy can openers I remembered the old man going on and on about why swing a way can openers were the best because of the hardened carbon steel cutters. So I looked for a swing a way only to find out that they were now made in china and weren't of the same quality. I was relieved to find out Steuby was still making the the same quality can opener under the Ez-Duz-It name. They really are the best can opener made.

Three Stars
Functions very well. Bu seems to collect surface rust quickly after getting wet.

It is such a vast improvement that it may be my new favorite kitchen accessory
I bought this to replace my flimsy grocery store can opener. It is such a vast improvement that it may be my new favorite kitchen accessory. I never have a problem hooking it to the can and it is strong and sturdy as it cuts open the lid. I also appreciate that it is American-made; I'm proud to support the industries in my own country!
