A Magnificant End to A Wonderful Series
Midsomer Murders has been a favorite series of mine, for a very long time.I purchased this collection with a bit of regret, knowing as the title states it was Tom Barnaby's last cases. This completed my collection as I knew that Midsomer Murders would not be the same for me without Tom and Joyce and Cully, who had nearly become members of my family. The collection of episodes, was as enjoyable as ever, with great stories and exceptional character actors. The final episode, with Tom's retirement ,was exceptionally well written and the conclusion realistic.I am so pleased that I have completed the 80+ episodes, but must admit that John Barnaby,Tom's cousin, lacks the charm and humor of the of the John Nettles performances. This is a great final tribute for a wonderful, charming fictional character, who lives in one of the loveliest parts of England. If you're a fan like me, this is a must buy, and a great farewell.

Review of "Midsomer Murders: Tom Barnaby's Last Cases"
As a rule murder mysteries are among my favorite t.v. shows, so when I was first introduced to "Midsomer Murders" some 8 years ago, I thought they were rather interesting. Later I found almost the whole series in the local library and watched all that they had. The acting is wonderful, and the interaction of the detectives provides humor which can be missed if one is not paying attention. Tom Barnaby's family is also a good part of the show as well as the wonderful scenery and music. I was so pleased to find this large collection on sale as I owned only one small set before. I have also recently bought other series, so I have not watched all of the last cases of Tom Barnaby, but I have really appreciated the ones I have watched. Fans of British mysteries are most likely to enjoy this set immensely.

Last episodes of Tom Barnaby in Midsomer Murders
I watched most of this series by borrowing from the library, but wanted to own Tom Barnaby's last episodes. Packaged as a set of Series 12 (Part 1 & 2) & Series 13 (Part 1 & 2), they are a great value. I like the complex murder mysteries without so much violence. Storyline centers on the figuring out 'Who Done It' instead. Barnaby outsmarts them to reveal the back story of why the murder took place. With 15 episodes in the set, will enjoy for a long time.

British Detectives at their best
My wife and I are big fans of anything British detective series. Midsomer is one of the best. It deals not only in mystery and murder, but Tom Barnaby actually has a life outside of his work. He has a wife, daughter and various characters who inhabit his rural type community. Sgt Troy his assistant adds some youth and a different view point on the current investigation and life in general. Along with the sometime brutal murders there is also added some humor that meets the occasion. A great series would have given this set five stars, but no closed caption for my old ears. Still for some reason they speak clearer then on most British series and I can understand them. Highly recommend for all Britsh detective enthusiasts.

Midsomer Murders: Tom Barnaby's Last Cases ...
A LOT of episodes at last! The "Series" dvds had only about four episodes each, and NOT full seasons. THIS dvd has a lot more. The episodes here are really fun and funny and simply great. I am happy. THIS set captures the flow and fun of the series, which is one of the best on TV. The only downside is that it does not contain ALL of Tom Barnaby's Last Cases, which was a little disappointing.

The last Collection
A really great BBC murder series. I have watched these episodes with my wife many times (with a year interval). While there is a great many murders, usually three or more each episode, the show is not dark. The show gets better and easier to understand as the series follow each other. This may be due to the fact that only the first 7 or 8 episodes are based on the books by Caroline Graham. It is harder to adapt a book for TV then writing a scenario only for TV. You can only hope that these multiple murders are not a true feature of life in the rural setting of England. The price of each collection is high compared to USA series. This collection is followerd by Barnaby's Casebook, Village Case Files, Mayhem & Mystery and then Tom Barnaby's Last Cases, the last episodes featuring the original Barnaby (John Nettles).

British murder mystery series extraordinaire
On November 26, 2013 I bought three of the five comprehensive box sets at a ridiculously low one-day price of $39.99 each. Regular price is consistently over $100 each on Amazon.ca, and about the same at Amazon.com when you consider the additional US shipping charges. Unfortunately the other two have not been anywhere near what I consider affordable, so I will just patiently wait and hope that they have another ridiculous sale sometime. The series is classic British mystery, generally slow paced and thoughtful, with unexpected twists and revelations that builds the tension slowly. The leads are not supermen like we see in The Mentalist or Criminal Minds types of shows which makes these British series - at least in my mind - more enthralling and unpredictable. Of course I still love shows like The Mentalist, Criminal Minds or Castle, but they are cheeseburgers next to the British filet mignons as exemplified by Midsomer Murders. A difference of comfort food versus cuisine, I suppose.

A sad end to a great product.
The only thing 'extra' to say is the fact that sadly there will be no more Midsomer Murders. When you have a delightful entertainment product like this with such wonderful and colorful characters, you certainly expect it to go forever. While some of the episodes are better than others, it does not take away the fact that Midsomer Murders is the kind of movie you would want to relax with over a beer or something.Despite the gruesome brutality of the murder scenes, the presentation is very well done, giving you enough to shock but not to traumatize like it`s the case with US films. And the humanity presented comes out as real enough and not fake like in most US moves.

Nothing can beat Midsomer Murders!
I have all dvds up until the switch to Tom's cousin and I watch them over and over. British humor and just great entertainment if you love a murder mystery. I especially like Tom and his family balancing the gruesomeness of the murders with their loving normal family life. Joyce will often give the whole thing just the right touch with a comment or even help her husband out with solving the murders. Just love it!

Midsomer Murders is a wonderful detective series
Midsomer Murders is wel written, well acted and well photographed. This sends shivers of delight up my spine as I watch and enjoy. This particular boxed set is a great choice to cover the last series that John Nettles made as Tom Barnaby and it introduces Tom's cousin, who later replaces Tom as the head detective in the series.
