X-Men: Mutant Genesis 2.0 Hardcover – January 1, 2012

Many of the reviews I read on Amazon before purchasing this book covered the specifics of the book and explained exactly which issues were included. Those reviews were helpful but truthfully I wanted to purchase this regardless of the reviews because it was one of my favorite X-Men stories. With that being said, I ended up being very surprised when I received this product and found that I was receiving such a better product than just what I had purchased it for. This book not only is a collection of the story I loved but it includes a bunch of extras, like the comic covers from this story line, classic posters, and random other art pieces that any fan of these books will instantly recognize. The hard cover option is a must for any book collector and they even took the time too re-master each and every page (including the covers) for this collection. If you are a purist then there maybe an issue for you with the art because I compared it to my old paperback graphic novel I purchased in the early 2000's and there is a noticeable difference in coloring. But for me, that difference did not take away from the joy of the new look. It may have some new coloring but the art still looks beautiful as ever. All in all, it is still amazing!

Before buying this, I had a LOT of trouble finding info about it. I mean, I KNEW what it was reprinting, but I wanted to know if it had been RECOLORED modern style. And the answer is YES!Nowadays, comics companies have to re-scan their old material digitally, and actually have a company re-color it like the comics of old. So, a lot of this 'remastered' stuff is remastered, but not really re-colored. I mean, technically, it is re-colored, but it is recolored to match the old comics. I'm sorry... but that doesn't do it for me anymore. I want to see more modern recoloring.This book... Mutant Genesis 2.0.... is colored MODERN STYLE. The colorist doesn't go overboard with the work... it's actually pretty good. (I will agree some 'modern' colors are terrible, but this one is somewhat faithful.) It adds an extra sheen and makes the material so much better.I wish Marvel would re-color everything old... I would start buying that material. As it is... I can't really stand looking at the old coloring nowadays.The main colorist for this is THOMAS MASON, and he does a good job. I'm currently looking for anything Marvel has had recolored, because it just makes everything look so much nicer. The recent TALES OF ASGARD is wonderful.If you like this material by Jim Lee, Claremont, and others... and you like modern coloring... you will enjoy this book. Otherwise, the old version is still available, too.

The deluxe gatefold ('E') edition of X-Men (1991) #1 was one of my first ever comic books. As a youngster, I was most impressed by Jim Lee's interpretation of the X-Men. I don't remember there being so much text when I first read it all those years ago. That said, I was/am much more interested in the artwork than the text!X-Men: Mutant Genesis 2.0 is a superb compilation of issues 1 to 7 of Marvel's 1991 X-Men series. The recolouring of issue #1 is absolutely gorgeous. As the quality of original artwork varies throughout the seven issues in the compilation, the recolouring also suffers from the apparent roughness of the original layouts. The artwork is great but just not up to the quality of issue 1.The compilation is presented in a nicely bound hardcover format with a colourful dust jacket. Using yellow as the highlight colour was a good choice. Without the dust jacket, the cover is black with a metallic blue X-Men logo. The 'Mutant Genesis' title, also metallic blue, is printed on the spine. The pages are bright, glossy and printed on nice stock. At the back are two fold-out posters recoloured by Thomas Mason.The latter issues in this compilation are by no means poor. Even if you just want to see X-Men (1991) #1 as it was intended then buying this item is well worth it.

It all starts here. In the early 90's, Chris Claremont and Jim Lee created arguably the greatest X-Men storyline to date. Their work and character designs set the tone for the future of the team and for the 90's animated series that followed.This book is a fantastic buy for any fan of the X-Men or this storyline. The benefit of buying this edition is the complete re-coloring throughout the book. All former editions use the original bleached-looking coloring. But in this new 2.0 edition, they digitally erased all former coloring, keeping only Jim Lee's original pencils and inks and then digitally re-colored it with high definition, sharp colors.Re-reading X-Men: Genesis in this 2.0 edition with the HD digital re-coloring is like reading a whole new book. The best way that I can describe it is that reading this story as it was originally published and comparing it to the 2.0 edition is like the difference between watching a movie on VHS and watching it on Blu Ray. If you love Jim Lee's art and want to get the absolute best publication of this iconic storyline, this is the book you want to buy.

Wish it was produced with original colors, sometimes details are hard to see in New color pallete

I love to draw comics, and one of my main influences is Jim Lee. Thing is, i like to look at his style for references and ideas, but being the Comic Book collector that i am, i don't like to carry my single Jim Lee Comics around (come on, you don't carry X-Men #1 around, that's a valuable) so i like this cause you can carry it, keep it in a book shelves so i can get it fast (like all of my Paperbacks) and use it for reference or just read the story again. If you don't want your single comics ruined or you're like me that puts them away for safe keeping, and want to keep reading them or look back at the story, buy this one.For X-men, Wolverine fans, the drawings are awesome, the story is powerfull and is a must have.

Best Graphic novel ever. Jim Lee is the best.

Acredito que deva ser excelente, mas infelizmente não recebi o item do vendedor no exterior, pelo menos fui ressarcido, evitando assim um transtorno maior.

Hatte lange auf das Erscheinen der deutschen Version gewartet, leider war diese ( trotz andere Werbung ) nicht neu koloriert. Zum Glück konnte ich umtauschen und habe dann dieses Exemplar bestellt. Lieferung ging schnell und Qualität ist 1A!

Face it, the only reason you are looking at buying this book is to see Jim Lee's fantastic art remastered and redone with modern comic book colouring and let me tell you it is GORGEOUS! I have read a book or two with Jim Lee art and was impressed but this is possibly his best work and seeing it with a brand new coat of paint makes the whole story feel so new that I would have sworn these issues came out just a few months ago. The stories themselves are amazing and do not read like something from 11 years ago like most comics do from then. Like I said I would have sworn these stories just came out. Now the amazon.ca price of $35 is rather steep for just a 7 issue book but it's a lot better than the $50 price printed on the back of the book. All I have to say is I am blown away by this book and want to read more X-Men from the 90's.
