Keeps Everything In and Everything Else Out
I bought these to take hiking and backpacking, particularly because they were purported to keep whatever is outside the bag out, and whatever is inside, inside. Well, these bags definitely did the trick! Warning - this next part may be considered gross to some, but it will give you an idea of how REALLY good these bags are. We take our dog hiking with us where allowed, and wanting to be good stewards of "leave no trace" we feel obliged to take our dog's droppings out with us. In the past, Ziplocs and everything else we tried, just can't contain the smell, but the ALOSAK bag rocked! And no one had to carry the bag, it went right into the pack no problem. And upon arriving home, washing the bag and putting out in the sun to dry, you'd never know what little "presents" it contained. Another warning though, it does keep the inside stuff inside - all of it, so I was nearly fainted over the stink when I opened it, but it didn't stink outside the bag ever. (We marked this bag, so it will only ever be used for this single purpose)Other things we used the bags for were trash, cooked chicken, toiletries and other potential leaky, stinky disasters. And putting the bag of cooked chicken into a stream not only cooled the contents nicely, but no water seeped into the bag so they will work phenomenally well inside a cooler with ice. While the original purpose was for hiking and backpacking, we're now using these for travel too because the leak and odor-proofing are so amazing! Plus they're clear, so they are great for getting through airport security. While these aren't inexpensive, they are immensely more useful and economical than Ziplocs or other bag-type containers.

No Bears - All Limbs in Tact
Well, I'm still alive! I used this to put my food and smellables in when I was backpacking for a couple nights earlier this fall. I was in the NH White Mountains, where there are bears and critters aplenty. I bought these bags because I didn't want to bear bag it. I've also read from AT through hikers that sleeping with your food in your tent is actually very safe and effective. Andrew Skurka used these on his Alaska trip and attributed them to not having any bear visits. So the first night I slept with my food inside my hammock, no problems. The second night I wanted to be more comfortable so I simply placed the food bag underneath my hammock. Again, no issues. My friend on the other hand spent about 20 minutes rigging up a bear bag the first night, and at least another 10 minutes the second night. It's not something I'd be particularly excited about after backpacking all day long. So for me, Opsaks will continue to be my go-to to keep the scents out of the air and the food safe, without all the hassle.BTW, I only needed one large bag for 3 days/2 nights of food. I also purchased a smaller 9x10 to put my trash in, but wouldn't have really been necessary since I could have just used a regular plastic bag for trash and just put that inside the large Opsak.

Odor Blocking Zip-lock Poly Bags
These bags do a good job containing strong odors. They are definitely superior to any ziplock freezer bag. The plastic is much thicker than other brands and the seal works good. I tested it with foods that have a lot of water content and the bags do not leak if the seal is properly closed all the way. I tried using these to store some strong smelling spices and they work but they don't block 100% of penetrating odors. The size is convenient and I will use these until I find something better.

OPSAK Review
Allright, I've tested these bags on numerous occasions, and I've come to several conclusions. Will they block odor? Yes, they will block odor. Will they block all odor? No, they won't block all odor. Can animals smell through them? Yes, some animals can smell the contents on the inside, especially bears. How do you know that they aren't completely odor proof? Buy some fresh fish at the store, and place within the OPSAK. Then, put the OPSAK in a Ziploc bag, and leave it outdoors in the hot sun for a week. When you go back to open that Ziploc bag holding the sealed OPSAK bag, try not to hurl your cookies. Mine were all over the ground after this experiment.

These are so sturdy and thick
These are so sturdy and thick. We got them to use in grizzly country to help mask any scented items in our packs. We have used them for a few different trips, just cleaning with bleach and soap when we got home. I take off one star because they do seem to hold scent after a few uses--coffee grounds, for example. But I will be ordering another batch of these same bags for another few uses. If you aren't using them for food, you'll get a lot of use out of them for a long time.

Only slightly better than a typical freezer zipper bag.
I'm not terribly impressed with the Opsak's I've bought. The Opsak only does a slightly better job of containing strong odors than a regular freezer zipper bag. The "zip" closure often becomes misaligned & doesn't seal properly unless you pay close attention to lining up the 2 sides & carefully sealing it across. The plastic quickly becomes brittle & gets small cracks if folded, especially in cold weather.

Only thing that works for me
I needed a stink proof bag for my Esbit Solid Fuel Tablets , otherwise my backpack would be as smelly as a French persons unwashed socks. After a couple of weeks, I can't smell a thing. I imagine if you need these so a bear doesn't get into your food, then you have bigger things to worry about!

Odor and waterproof your valuables and/or food.
Inside your food bag they are the best way to odor proof your food ( Better then any Zip Lock Bag ) and offer double duty ( no odor and waterproof ) for food protection when you hang your bear bag.I also use one of these 9 x 10 bags to put my valuables ( Wallet , Identification and/or camping permits , Medications ) in to protect them from the weather,The 12 x 20 are my main ones for food storage in my bear bag , squeeze the excess air out to save space. They can be used for just about anything.
