HOLY ROLLER

intense with good blues/country humor
Got turned on to the Rev from watching old Beavis and Butthead videos on Youtube. I guess that's a very appropriate introduction. B and B were watching Wiggle Stick and Psychobilly Freakout. They liked it ("it's like they're our kind of people") and so did I. I figured if they could produce Wiggle Stick, they had to have other good stuff. I was right. It was worth getting it for One Time for Me, Love Whip, Cowboy Love, In Your Wildest Dreams and their version of Folsom Prison Blues. I'm glad I bought it.

See you in church!
If you believe in the evangelical power of rock then this is for you: a howling celebration of self-knowing musical stupidityfor those heavy, heavy drinking sessions. HOLY ROLLER is a fantastic 24-track retrospective that neatly encapsulates the Rev's career-from 1991's SMOKE 'EM IF YOU GOT 'EM to 1998's SPACE HEATER.As is usually the case with this sort of compilation, themes emerge. The Reverend seems to be preoccupied with the positive effects of inebriation. Such tunes as "Bales Of Cocaine," "Marijuana," "It's Martini Time," "Baby I'm Drunk," and "Eat Steak" glorify excess with tongue planted firmly in snuff-filled cheek. It's difficult to think that a man who'll write a song called "Where In The Hell Did You Go With My Toothbrush?" isn't kidding. The songs are in the classic rockabilly format of guitar, slap bass, and drums, but the trio's fiery, noisy playing blows apart any notion of polite revivalism.

Who doesn't like Rev. Horton Heat? Great album packed with some of their best songs from the 80s and 90s

good collection
I had this cd on a tape my friend made me. I listened to it for years, and finally broke down and bought it on cd. There are a few songs I don't care for all that much, but are enough great songs for me to still say I love it. There is a good variety of songs, from funny ones, to harder ones, to good grooving ones.

Three guys make this much noise?
Great CD, full of all the good stuff. CD came earlier than expected and in perfect shape. Was lucky enough to see them open for Motorhead on The Global Warming Tour. I was sceptical on how the crowd would take to them. The crowd went nuts. A really good band in studio and live. I was lucky enough to meet them behind The Warfield Theatre in San Fransisco and they are great guys too.

Psychobilly freakout
'Say, what is this rockabilly stuff the Reverend Horton Heat's been preachin' about? Is it gonna change mah life? Will ah git saved?'Ohh Yes!!This ain't just rockabilly. This ain't even rock'n'roll. This is both of 'em mixed up together, simmered in punk rock, spiced up with a handful of country and a pinch o' blues and served with a side dish of surf music and a jug of 100% proof home-brewed humour'That ain't religion - that sounds more like a cookery lesson'Yeah well that's because it is. This is soul food, buddy, but not like you've ever had it before. Sure there's a couple of bum tracks, and one or two omissions, but this is high-on-the-hog,smoke-pit, finger-poppin', burnt-at-the edges good old good time music, and if that don't make ya wanna throw yeself on the griddle and fry yore brains, then maybe yore beyond redemptionSo fall on yore knees, open your ears, throw out yore arms, and sing the praises of the Reverend Horton Heat. Oh yeah! Oh yeah!'Say, who is this guy anyway? And what's he talkin' `bout?''Danged if I know. This must be some sorta, like, y'know, uh some kinda Psychobilly Freakout!!??.........'Call the President!

If you like rock 'n' roll, you'll enjoy this band, and that's a promise!
Considering most people you talk to would never have heard of this band, they have released quite a lot of albums. This one is my first, but most certainly will not be the last. It's supercharged psych rockabilly rock 'n' roll, and it is are knockout! A friend in America went to see them on the Motorhead / Horton Heat / Nashville Pussy tour and said he bought a Horton Heat T-shirt and left the venue "determined to buy ALL of their albums as soon as he possibly could." What more of a recommendation does anyone need? This band are excellent! If you like Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent then you'll thoroughly enjoy this, and for that matter, any of their other albums.

Just excellent!!
I'd never heard of the Rev until I bought this album to try. I'm a true blue '50's only guy but his just blew me away. Great guitar and vocals and real raunchy lyrics. I've bought a few other albums from the Rev since but for me this is by far the best compilation. If you only buy one buy this one!
