Great product if it arrives unbroken!
This is a GREAT portable charcoal grill. Superior gravity feed design. The problem is that the hinges on the two we bought through Amazon arrived broken. Amazon nicely replaced the first, no charge, but refused to send a replacement for the second one, but did provide a refund. Best bought through a big box store, as the drive to your door could end in disappointment, as mine did!Update: Well, the journey through Masterbuilt land has been . . . uh . . uh . . .well, let's just say . .interesting! The design of this grill was perfect, well except for the manifold, but you can mod that with heavy duty aluminum foil. The product you can turn out on it it is super! The sad truth is, though, the build on these grills is, unfortunately, too light weight! And by the time you replace all the things that will eventually fail on the Portable Electric Smoker Grill, you could have bought yourself a new grill! Also, unless you are an industrial engineer, with a minor in applied mechanics, forget using any of the PDF files (if you can find them), that Masterbuit provides on their terribly designed GUI unfriendly website. The one saving grace is that their customer service department is quite helpful! (Ask for Heather!)Masterbuilt has a frecking GREAT idea here!!! They just cut corners implementing the idea! Just be resigned that unless you actually ARE an industrial engineer, with a minor in applied mechanics, you'll need to buy a new one each year, as they fail (usually just after the warrenty runs out) about that time!If you can't afford to replace it yearly (or won't), look to some other brand! But you won't find a better design/idea for a portable smoke- grill than Masterbuilt has come up with!

Great product! If u don't like to much smoke flavor, cook w/lid open. if u like a strong smoke or charcoal flavor, close lid.Charcoal last a long time, great system! Easy to maintain.

Great lil portable smoker
This lil smoker got me back into smoking. I used to smoke semi frequently with a Weber bullet but when the number of meat eaters at my home dwindled I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I'm not the biggest fan of smoked leftovers but now I can smoke for 2 people and not feel like I wasted a bunch of charcoal only smoking for two. Here's pros/consProsSize, portability, temp control, and so far it seems like a high quality product that is built to lastConsThe grate isn't great for smoking. It's is essentially a sold piece of metal with some slits. So you really only get the smoke ring on 3 sides of your meat. I'll be replacing it with a grate that has better airflow under the meat.Their temp gauge is off.... it's a fair amount warmer than it says on the lid. I know you shouldn't depend on a temp gauge in a lid but I cant find my probes so on my first smoke when i was ready to foil my meat was already over 180°. This problem will be resolved when I find my probes. My handles are terrible. I thought since I just bought the grill I'd have the new slimmed down handles that are in the product photos but no. The old style handles are huge and make the grill a bit awkward to carry yourself. It essentially makes the grill's footprint 25-30% larger since the stick out so far. I really wish it had the new style handles. Not sure if I will be able to find an aftermarket solution but have thought about bending the handles upwards.NeutralThe paint they used on the hinges isn't heat safe. Saw a review that claimed the hinges are plastic and that's not the case. The bubbling is the paint only. It bubbled the first time I fired up the grill. I don't think it's a big deal but it would have been nice to either have the right paint used of just not paint the hinges. So there's definitely some room for improvement but so far I am really liking this grill. After a few tweaks I'm sure I'll love it. I'm just happy to be smoking again.

Why has it taken this long
Ive owned multiple MB smokers. My most recent one was the MB560 almost a year ago. Still running like a champ just may need to replace controller soon. Im fully aware of the quality to innovation ratio they are known for (cheaper parts for more innovative features). Very much worth it if you employ proper care and maintenance since it could last longer than the usual 3 to 5 years for these types of products. MB has outdone themselves with this grill/smoker. 0 to 550 in 14 to 20 mins and minutes to get to other temps. Easy to clean, lid gauge is about 10 to 20 off from center mass ambient so easy to work with. Only con would be some target temp numbers on the knob for convenience but 20 minutes of playing with it and you can figure out which notch is what for when the fan kicks in. Will be my daily driver for family meals. Best thing is its portability. Works with the dewalt battery pack mod I use for my MB560, but even better is the 4xAA batteries that makes it a perfect minimalist tailgating or family camping stove. Highly recommend

Cheaply made looks tough very heavy but Plastic hinges!!!!!!!!
Arrived battered box then upon opening hinges on lid are plastic right side plastic is broken. It would have been really smart to make it stainless and not plastic poorly thought out

I love this thing!
I’m a Weber Charcoal Grill guy who got the Masterbuilt 850 at Costco (floor model, clearance price) a few years ago. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. I wanted that convenience and this grill delivers. While you can’t dial in an exact temperature, once you get a feel for it you can set a bunch of hot dogs or hamburgers on it and let it go. You get that great charcoal flavor with the ease of a gas grill. It doesn’t take a lot of charcoal to power it for several hours and cleanup is a breeze. Make sure you season it properly and I don’t see how you’ll be upset with this purchase.
