How smart is your smartwatch? well the GT08 is no genius that's for sure.
The GT08... it was bought for me as a gift for my 25th birthday, the very first thing to stick out is how it looks - appearance - admittedly it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing looking watches i've ever seen, any technophile will confirm in nodding agreement that it is heavily based on the Apple i watch for looks, it could easily be mistaken for the real thing without burning a hole in your pocket... It is duly noted that one can spend any amount on a watch (Rolex, anyone?) if you want one that looks the business and is all style, little substance, this is it. I did need a new watch so it's a welcome item in my inventory, thank goodness it tells the time which is massively re-assuring. the build quality is also very good, a steel housing encases the screen and it comes with a thick rubber wrist band with a nice tight pin-hole feature for fastening to the wrist. The greatest thing is of course the price of £13. It is not without it's problems though, recognizing the nature of these issues will help you better understand why I give 3 stars instead of 4 or 5when you begin to read the instruction manual, it is very poorly written and severely lacking in the grammar department, I decided to take to YouTube for some advice instead from some American who at least has a coherent grasp on our language... but even the video's don't give me exactly what I'm looking for which is - can it make calls independently? a great deal of emphasis is on this sought of ironic "Bluetooth" drama.... apparently it makes phone calls as there is a slot for a Micro sim under the screen and under the battery which is what I hoped for... but so far all i've been able to do is connect it to my Samsung A5 which I don't want to do and leaves me scratching my head... why do this when my phone is a separate entity? the Bluetooth to me seems kind of redundant as well. the GT08 is supposed to have basic smart phone features but after long hours of assessment and playing around with it, I find it just CAN'T do phone calls, texts, view images or files. All that does work is 1. tells the time 2. calculator 3.timer 4. stopwatch 5. Bluetooth connection with your phone (unnecessary) and a few other things, but the main things you would want it for (to replace the need to have a smartphone on you) just simply aren't there.so we come to my main gripe, the operating system. The format is just so behind the times, it reminds me of my old Nokia 3100 which is now handed out for free in 3rd world countries, it leaves more to be desired which one could say is reflected in the price point, you do get what you pay for which is, frankly, not much. The "internet" apps do not work i.e Google, Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp it just says "unavailable" they are just there to fill space on the simple menu's though i've heard whatsapp will work but only with your phone. I'm not sure the manufacturers understand the purpose to have something that means NOT carrying a smartphone around, but clearly not. you will notice it does have a pinhole-camera on the front but it's very grainy in any lighting and the default image is zoomed in too far, i. The "smart" functions are mostly broken, not fit for purpose and the ones that do work are incredibly basic. you are much better off with your smartphone or tablet and just keep this as a standard watch, it's not really that good for much else however the battery life is claimed to last 2 days in standby which is nothing compared to the 10 years I can get out of a normal watch. But it looks good that's really where the 3 stars come from, I like it because it looks good and I can't emphasize that enough. Did i mention how cool it looks (you get the picture, pun intended)My rating criteria for 3 stars is appearance and build quality, it falls flat on functionality, battery life and redundant features like the illusion of being able to phone or text independently and working-bluetooth that isn't needed here, I might want bluetooth headphones to lose the wiring but with a watch? no.In conclusion, I do not feel it was made "intelligent" enough to do everything you can do already and in a better quality on a host of other smart devices... I will just use it as a standard watch which seems to be my bottom line about the GT08. It's not breaking the bank but it's not bringing anything new to the table either, it was a nice idea but it is executed poorly and just ends up feeling mediocre. It's okay but doesn't inspire the imagination and instead comes off as a middle of the road imitation of the Apple I watch, this is not a true smart-watch that is going to go down in history, when you eventually throw it away, you'll just shrug your shoulders, raise your hands in an ascending manner and say "meh". I got it for free and did not have to pay so it is still a bonus, I do want to keep it at the end of the day.however If you want a real "smart" watch with IQ digits in the triple figures, go for the Apple I watch or Samsung smart watches. I do recommend that you get a GT08 if you want to "try before you buy" a trial smartwatch but if you can afford it, upgrade to something better as soon as possible.
