A Type Primer, 2nd edition Paperback – 28 Feb. 2011

Unfortunately, the second edition is not as amazing as the first in its form.The first is a real jewelry container.however, the content is what I could see better in the subject since 10 years.

As a beginner I found this book fascinating and immediately useful. Clearly laid out and interesting, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their understanding of letterforms and the use of type.

Excellent book for students. Especially studying typography and graphic design.

Bought for son who is studying Graphic Design at Uni. He say's it is a great book.

Typographers bible! Must have for any design student.

Highly recommended for beginners. Very down-to-earth and straightforward narrative. A bit of historical context, a bunch of practical examples with explanations why. Beautifully designed too. If you're looking for a starting point into the world of typography — this is it.

Took a Typography class with John Kane the author and it was extremely helpful for his class. We covered a lot that was included in the book. The materials in the book help you develop a basic understanding of how typography really works, and it did help me learn a lot. I would highly recommend this book not only for his class, but to get a better understanding of how typography works.

I bought the electronic version and I somewhat regret it. Go with the paper one, things will be much better for the eyes and you can turn to the pages you want easier. Sometimes when I zoomed on the ebook it becomes distorted/blurry so get the paper version.Lots of information on structure as well and what goes into the typefaces and such.
