Great Guide
What a wonderful resource . My camera came with hardly any info and the on camera guide isn't very convenient to learning. This guide is great, lots of pictures and illustrations. The book is laid out logically and explains digital photography which I am just learning. It's big and easy to read, glossy pages. Highly recommend to anyone who buys a Nikon D3100. Nikon could learn a thing or two about what a user manual should look like.

Incredible
David Busch's ability to describe, step-by-step every option that a camera has to offer and then to teach how to apply it to anyone's ability level is astounding! I bought this book for my son-in-law since I had purchased David's book on my Canon Rebel T2i and I learned so much more than the Canon guide. I have been taking photos for 40 years, and David, not only offers beginners the ability to utilize every function of their camera, but also give new ideas to us 'old timers' from the 35mm times, is amazing. Even though I thought I was pretty techno savy, David showed me things I would have never found otherwise. EVERY DSLR OWNER NEEDS TO HAVE DAVID BUSCH'S BOOK ON THEIR CAMERA TO UTILIZE IT TO THE MAXIMUM!!!

This is a great guide for D3100 owners.
This guide is exactly what new owners of the Nikon D3100 need if they are not completely familiar with digital cameras. If an owner is an experience photographer it will save a bit of time figuring out the menus and offer some great suggestions about lenses. If you are new to digital photography, or photography in general, you should read this book. Some reviewers claim this is simply a rehash of the owner's manual on the CD accompanying the camera. Not at all true. The book contains important information such as how to use, really understand and use, the controls the camera offers. The owner's manual doesn't in any way do this. Also, Busch gives in-depth coverage of one of the 2 or 3 most important concepts in photography, the exposure triangle (shutter speed, ISO and aperture). I'm glad I bought the book.

Nice supplement
I came late to the D3100 since I found a good price on a closeout. It's a nice supplement to the camera's owner's manual and reference guide. I used to own SLRs back in pre-digital days. I still haven't learned everything there is to know about the D3100 but find it easy to get my questions answered in this book as they come up. I have found a couple of references to the D3000 that weren't updated in this book for the D3100. But overall, a useful book.

Good book to know what you have and what it is capable of...
I purchased this book after 2 weeks I got my D3100. I am beginner to DSLR family so was excited about it. Manual which comes with camera is just to give you over view of the product so I will definitely recommend this book. This book is written in simple layman terms so that even beginner like me can also understand the terms. There are few things which are really basics and if you are reading after already spent some time on your DSLR you can skip some of the things which is also mentioned what to skip and when.It will surely helpful to start with and clear your fundamentals about the photography. It will also tells you about the each and every function of the camera in detail so that you can really enhance your skills and take beautiful pictures the way you want. You will be surprised with your picture taking ability after reading the book and applied it while taking pictures. Since this book is written on specific model you can understand quiet easily while keeping your camera in one hand and simultaneously experimenting with it.Overall its worth spending money ............

Very helpful
The book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about your new camera! The author is very thorough about the operation of the camera, but also how to get the most out of it. I purchased the camera used, so it didn't come with ANY instructions at all, problem solved with this book, and more!!

Awesome!
I took up photography as a hobby earlier this year and this is the camera I got. The more I get into photography the more I want to understand how my D3100 works. This book is great. The author has years of experience and knows how to teach the concepts and how things with this model of camera work. Along with some concepts such as ISO, white balance, Metering and so on. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a Nikon D3100, because by the time you are done with this book you will know how to use this camera.

Not accurate, and not for a beginner to DSLR cameras
Returned this book after getting halfway through chapter 2. There was too much bad information and too many dead ends. For example, the author explains how to switch between four different views in the photo playback function, by pressing the master control up and down. On my Nikon D3100 there are only two views, not four. Additionally, he fails to properly identify the location of buttons and switches. For example, he describes the info button as the third button down from the top on the left side of the back of the camera. It is not third; it is the bottom (or fifth) button from the top. Did the author even hold the D3100 before writing an instruction booklet for it? Not for the beginner.

Very useful book but hard to find
This came from MusicMagpie second hand through Amazon Marketplace and was a little grubby with some staining, but I didn't expect it to be perfect based on the description. The book itself is excellent, though, and well worth tracking down if you have an older D3100 DSLR. I got the camera for my daughter second hand to get into DSLR photography and wanted a good book that would go through the basics and more advanced stuff but was easy to read as well. David Busch's book does just this, with great example pictures and lots of helpful tips.

It's early days yet but so far, I'm happy I purchased this book
I haven't yet finished it but am working my way slowly through this book which is written with the complete novice in mind. This is my first DSLR and I've only recently moved up from my compact point and shoot but was frustrated that the manual supplied with the camera did not offer explanations as to why I should change my settings. I felt I needed to understand more in this field. It's early days yet but so far, I'm happy I purchased this book.

In Plain English
I'm no camera buff so this suits me down to the ground. I still get a bit lost in ISO and the like but it does what it said it would and that's good enough for me.

Great book - just wish the photographer could match up!
This is a great book, well written, very clear with excellent colour pictures. I just wish I had purchased it years ago, perhaps my photographic skills would match the camera quality!
