Good Value, good testing.
Good product, easy test, compared it to Alpha track. I ran out of Alpha track test strips and at the time, the soonest the replacement ones could arrive was the next week, and I needed to test my cat sooner than that, so I gave PetTest a try. As others have done, I did a side by side comparison with my last Alpha track test strip to see the difference, and reviewed the results with my Vet. The results were close and the money savings (I purchased a whole new kit from PetTest for about the price I would have paid just for the Alpha track replacement test strips) was really good. So far, I'm very satisfied with this product - I like the information I've learned about the people at the PetTest company and the product is sound.

Very accurate results, excellent value over competition
I am so happy I bought this meter! I have been using the Alpha Trak 2, and while it did a good job, the strips were very expensive and I have to test my little guy several times a day right now, along with doing a curve once a week, until we get his BG under control, so I decided to try the Advocate Pet Test meter and strips because they are much less expensive. I am sooooo glad I did. Not only are the strips less than half the price of the Alpha Trak 2 strips, it is easier for me to do the test because the Advocate meter has a mechanism that causes it to draw the blood up into the strip, kind of like a sucking/drawing action, so I need to use less blood for the test, ultimately making it easier on my little Maltese, who by the way, is the love of my life.I like the meter because I don't have to code it and it has a very easy to read format so I can test my dog, or one of my cats, should God forbid, one of them develop diabetes as well. The set up was super fast and easy, too. I will make one suggestion.......don't put the strip all the way in until you are sure you have a blood drop ready to test because as I found out through trial and error, if you don't get enough blood on the strip the first time, it will give you a false low reading, like ridiculously low...as in 26 or 28, or something questionably low, or it will just say LO.This meter comes with 25 starter strips, 21 gauge lancets, control solution, and a nice carrying case. I would suggest buying an additional box of 50 test strips because 25 will go by pretty fast, especially if your pup is like mine and needs several tests daily. I found a box of 50 on Amazon for $23.24 with free shipping, at the time of this posting. Advocate PetTest Strips, 50 StripsAt the end of the day, it doesn't really matter how much more cost effective the Advocate system is over the Alpha Trak 2, if the results are inaccurate, so I decided to put them side-by-side, use the same drop of blood, and test them at the same time to see if there was any difference in the results, and if so, to what degree. I did this on 5 separate tests and the largest variance I found was 3 points, one was 117, the other was 114. I took a photo of one of the comparison tests, one was 87, the other was 88. I would say that is definitely close enough to be called accurate. The date is off by one day and the time is showing a.m. on one and p.m. on the other, but that is because I messed up when I was setting up the Alpha Trak 2 and I am too lazy to fix it. LOL. So although the dates/times do not match exactly on the meter in the photo, I can assure you the results are from the same drop of blood, taken at the same time and compared immediately.Since canine diabetes is not reversible, testing is something I will be doing for the rest of my Maltese's life. He is only 6 years old now, so I am looking at having to buy test strips for the next 10+ years. With the great prices on Amazon, I will be saving thousands of dollars by switching to the Advocate meter and test strips. My little pup is everything to me and I want to make sure his diabetes is controlled so he can live a long, happy life, right by my side.

Terrible customer support! I do NOT recommend buying, especially if you have a diabetic cat!
1) Lancet device: I purchased this because I was worried about causing my cat unnecessary pain. I thought their unique lancet device would help. Unfortunately, you can not use this device on the edge of a cat's ear, which is the place to obtain blood samples from cats. When I first purchased the device, I contacted PetTest for help. They were completely USELESS. They knew nothing about using the device on cats. They directed me to a blog (and it wasn't even their blog) which did not address using the device on cats. I gave up on the lancet device and just used lancets.2) Glucometer: A few months after purchasing it and using it multiple times a day I came to realize that the device wasn't working correctly. I would take a sample, the number would be much higher than expected. I would immediately test again, and the number would be 100 points lower. Tested again, and the number was even lower. The fourth time, the number was sky high again. Mind you, I do everything they suggest including weekly testing of device with control solution. I called technical support. WHAT A MISTAKE! All the person was concerned with was my personal info. I gave him all info and explained multiple times that I needed help. He asked more inane and irrelevant questions. I explained to him that I needed to have accurate readings because this is how I determine how much insulin my cat needs. He was clueless and asked me for more info (when did I buy test strips, where did I buy unit and test strips, etc). The end result? Twenty minutes later he told me I was doing everything correctly and he didn't know what was wrong. Great - so what should I do? He didn't know but told me someone would contact me (which should have been easy because I gave them all of my info). Shockingly (this is a sarcastic comment), no one has contacted me. I gave up and bought an AlphaTrak unit (which is what my vet uses - now I know why!).I am so disappointed in this company! I really hoped that this product would prove helpful to managing my cats diabetes. I don't think they realize that incorrect readings could lead to severe health implications for our furry friends!! I could easily have overdosed and killed my cat because of their subpar device!!

Decent monitor
We bought this as a backup for another glucose monitor as the strips were arriving late for the other. I have been caring for our diabetic old pup for 7 years, so I have quite a lot of experience with many different monitors. This monitor is fairly simple to use and requires a very small amount of blood, which is nice on days when bleeding is minimal or your pet doesn't want to cooperate. The test strip sucks up the blood quickly and automatically starts reading when it has enough blood. This monitor does only go up to 600, which might be an issue if you are still trying to adjust the insulin amount needed. The largest variance we have had between our two monitors or multiple tests in the same few minutes with this monitor is 30 mg/dL. If you're newer to caring for a diabetic pet, this could cause some difficulties.Overall, this monitor is easy to use, easy to setup, and fairly accurate. If you are receiving errors, be sure the strip is inserted with the white side facing you and you have a drop of blood ready before putting the strip to the blood.
