Great for beginners, Skip if more experienced
These pens are a great value - 12 for $15.99. This is especially nice for beginners. When I first started calligraphy I ruined my first set of pens from not holding them correctly which put too much pressure on the tips causing them the fray. I would have much rather started with pens like this to learn the basics - because lets be real, your lettering will not look any better if you buy a really nice pen.For a medium tip, they do write well, do not bleed, and have mostly continuous even flow of ink. However, if you're more experienced, you may not want to use these. I'm personally not a fan of the medium tip. I prefer small tips to do the detailing or practice drills. In general, I feel small tips look cleaner for even medium sized writing - unless you're new to the craft and have trouble with thin lines. I also own large bush pens which are better for bigger lettering or if you naturally write larger. These pens are not fine enough to do small lettering, and the ink will become splotchy if you try to write too big with them. Depending on where you are in your calligraphy, these pens may be great, or they'll end up in your other abandoned arts and craft drawer (unless I'm the only one with a drawer like that ...)

Not perfect, but REALLY good for the money!
I've been using various brush pens for a number of years now. My go-to pens have been from Tombow and Kuretake. I was given the opportunity to try these pens at no-cost in exchange for an honest review. After spending about a week or ten days with these pens, I can say that I really do enjoy using them. They put down a decent amount of ink and give a nice traditional brush feel when using them in a faster manner. They appear to have a felt or synthetic tip, which I expected at this price point, so they don't offer quite as much variation as a more "traditional" brush or pen with individual fibers, but they do offer quite a lot of variation. I also wish they were a little more responsive as the don't "snap" back the way my Tombow and Kuretake pens do.But again, at this price point for a pack of 12, I can't complain as these pens offer a really nice value for money, put down a dark line and offer plenty of variation for lettering or drawing. The traditional brush-like feel of these (despite the synthetic make), gives a much more premium feel than their price point would suggest. I'll keep these in the rotation for sure as I find them to be a nice compliment to my current kit of pens.

Great brush pens for beginners at an unbeatable price
I was very pleasantly surprised with these brush pens! I found them comparable to my Tombow Fudenosuke pens, both in size of the pen and how it handles. These pens have a larger tip with medium flexibility, which for me made it easier to have thin up strokes and thick down strokes in my calligraphy. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm being too hard on the Fudenosuke pens or that they are drying out after just a few months of use. These are pleasantly inky. I tested all TWELVE pens in the box and they were all in excellent condition. The ink is water based and doesn't bleed, and it dries fairly quickly. With the medium tip, these are suitable for most lettering, but I wouldn't use them if you were trying to write really small.I highly recommend these pens, especially to those who are just beginning in calligraphy/brush lettering. Like I said, they are so close to the Tombow Fudenosuke in the way they write. As a beginner, I wish I had started with these, because they are cheaper and refillable.I received this product for free in exchange for an honest review.

not your average brush pen
if you are buying these expecting a tombow brush pen you are going to be dissapointed. these do not have that soft really brush like feel to them that you would expect from a brush pen, but they do have fantastic line quality and a fairly fine line. that said they are incredibly fun to use as they are. they are a little firmer than most brush pens, and for that reason they are a little easier to control. some brush pens dry out pretty quickly, but these pens hold their charge for a long time. they are also refillable. the process of refilling is pretty simple, the cap has a hexagonal shape at the top that works as a wrench to unscrew the bottom of the pen. this is a really clever design feature and would likely make refilling fairly easy. i have still not had a chance to refill these yet because there are so many of them in the pack and they last a long time. at a little over a dollar a pen these are a great value and would be a great addition to your artist satchel to supplement or replace more expensive brush pens.

Good Quality at a Bargain Price
I am quite pleased with these Sipa pens at such a bargain price. They have a soft springy flexible felt nib but firm enough to let you control the thin upstrokes and thick down strokes with ease. The ink flow is smooth and dispensed ink consistently without streaks. They dry quickly and do not bleed through paper. The black ink is very bold and pigmented. I have compared them to some of the favorite and most popular brush pens for beginner brush calligraphy (Pilot Futayaku Double-sided brush pen, Pentel Fude Touch Sig Pen, Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen, and the Zebra disposable brush pen) and find them to be comparable. They are smoother than the Tombow but not as smooth as the Pentel. The nib is thicker but still makes beautiful thick and thin strokes. I’m still a beginner in calligraphy and hand lettering and these Sipa pens are great for practicing drills and worksheets without breaking the bank.
