Second studio album by the British singer and 2009 X Factor winner. The album follows his appearance on 'Popstar to Operastar' in 2010, and features several operatic ballads, including 'Va Pensiero' (Verdi) and 'Nessun Dorma' (Puccini), as well as covers of more contemporary tracks such as 'Dance With My Father' (originally recorded by Luther Vandross), 'Il Mio Curoe Va (My Heart Will Go On) (originally recorded by Celine Dion) and 'To Where You Are' (originally recorded by Josh Groban).

This is what happens when your wife knows your Amazon account details....
Joe is getting the five stars as he’s a good lad. I only noticed that this was awaiting review on my account today...it got me worrying...did I get really really drunk or something and make this odd purchase?...I didn’t remember but was relieved to find out that my wife had bought this for her mother, and I was not indeed a closet Joe fan....the relief.

A Pleasure To Listen to
This album is a real pleasure to listen to, I've played it countless times.Although Joe's considerable vocal talents were already evident during his time on The X Factor, the vocal training Joe received on Popstar to Operastar, has uncovered something really special in his voice. This album also showcases Joe's astounding ability to emotionally connect, with any song, of any genre that he sings. There are several tracks that stand out for me:Somewhere Over The Rainbow - I really like this cover of the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole arrangement of this song; it shows off the fabulous tonality in the voice.I Dreamed A Dream - I've never heard a Male singing this track before. Stunning -beautifully sung.Solitaire - I first heard this sung by The Carpenters, but never really paid much attention to the lyrics before. Joe's performance brings the lyrics to the listener's attention.Dance With My Father - Joe's X Factor audition song, I just love his interpretation. Then of course, there's Nessun Dorma - sung in both English and Italian. The english translation is refreshing; and the Italian version - as sung on Popstar to Operastar; reminds us just what a special voice Joe McElderry has.

Can't stop playing it!!
Oh Boy.. Having watched Joe win "Pop Star to Opera star" and QUITE RIGHTLY SO. I couldn't help but be AMAZED at how his voice has matured since he won The X Factor (Also well deserved!) This album is truly magical, such a richness to Joe's voice that belies his age. I have since bought his Classic Christmas album..Beautiful!I truly cannot stop playing this particular Classic album, every track is memorable, and for me..Dance with my Father has special memories.. It was Joe's X Factor audition song and the one he chose to sing in the final.I was SO thrilled he included it on this album. If you loved his performances on both shows.. BUY IT.. you will not be disappointed. P.S. to Simon Cowell.. BIG MISTAKE.. IN FACT.. HUGE!!! IN NOT SIGNING JOE ON THE SPOT!!Way to go Joe... you proved you didn't need HIM or his record company.. you did it on your own! Looking forward to your next album.

The Boy Finds His True Calling
Like many avid X Factor watchers, I've followed Mr McElderry's career since his first tentative steps at his first audition and of course to the live shows and final. After winning (X-Factor) he released a very good, competent pop album, take a look its really worth a look, with at least four or five songs that really stand out, of course it didn't hit the spot as well as the record company would have liked and eventually the they dropped him (oh the fools, just who's laughing now). This is of course his second album, one of classical foundations (hence the title) and being one music follower that follows music with my ears and not with the other dumb sheep, I have, of course, purchased this piece of quality. All I can I say that Mr Joe McElderry has FINALLY found his one true calling, by creating a Classical album thats fresh, clear and powerful,He manages to covers some of music's modern classics as well as some of operas masterpieces, with (what my ears hear) ease, in true style and quality. His vocal prowess and style is one thats smooth and clear, one that you can truly hear each and every word and each post and pre accent, which can't be said for may artists in any music chart, pop or otherwise, this of course only proves that he was always far far to good of a find and of course performer for general pop music, the style originally marketed my Sony BMG/Syco and after winning `Pop Star To Opera Star', he managed to show that he is more than we we're all lead to believe. With true quality, style and power, this classical path is really where he should have been from the start. Each one of the tracks has been tastefully freshened and updated, with the correct amount of accompaniment and backing, which makes this young talented singer sound clear and powerful.I would personally urge anyone to purchase this album and judge it for yourself, see and hear the young boy from South Shields become grow in to one of the UK's brightest stars.

Classic & fantastic
The Voice!!!!!! that's all!!!!!that is better than what we expect from a singing competition winner. so from a double singing competition winner? that is the perfect result! It's chilling, it's emotional, it's heartwarming!what a voice! what a kind and friendly man!I actually cannot wait for the next album already!

SUPERLATIVE CD
The object of this review is not to just state the obvious: that Joe McElderry is the handsomest guy on the planet, with an astounding voice which appears to be singing just for you.It is the high standard of RECORDING which will send shivers down your spine!Recorded by DECCA who were famous in the fifties for technical innovations it shows just how far the company has advanced in half a century. In short I simply love this wonderful disc (and Joe too, naturally !).
