Why Not Knot For Fun: A Kid Friendly Guide to Knots & Adventure

Great info, bad presentation design.
Many of the book's photos are dark. Text is written over transparent images, page colors change in diagonal behind text, and knot work is sometimes displayed on top of lined floor tiles. All of these things make for a chaotic, difficult reading experience. I have to concentrate that much harder just to see, read, and understand.Perhaps not everyone will struggle because of the design choices. So I've only taken off one star.Terrible layout design aside, I want instructional knot books like this for adults. (I don't mean "adult" books.) I have several outdoor knot books. Informational, but not at all motivating. Adults play in the outdoors too. But unlike Why Not Knot for Fun, the books for adults dont recommend activities and adventures to pair with this or that type of knot.Something else I loved about this book, it lists the knots used in the activit at the top of each activity. (Not very prominently. Top right. I didn't notice the box at first. But was happy when I found it!)I don't regret buying this book. If I lost this book, I would buy it again. I'm just frustrated at how hard it is for me to read.

Fun book
This is a weird book (weird in a good way). I did some with my son while we were camping. I like the section in the back that has different activities to do with ropes and knots. I would buy this again.

You will knot be disappointed
A perfect gift for my 10 and 8-year-old boys. Pictures are clear and they have had lots of fun learning different knots. May have to get pages laminated so they don’t destroy it.

I bought this book for my grandson's 5th birthday. When it arrived I saw that it was really for a much older kid. It would be nice in the description if they would put the estimated age category that it is suited for. For an older child (one who reads pretty well) it looks like an awesome book.

We are on our SECOND copy!
Our children have so loved this book we needed to get a second copy! Not only was the fist one getting a bit tattered from constant use, they accidentally left it out in their knot constructed "fort" and the several days of rain rendered it unusable. It's amusing to have your 6 year old daughter tell you which knot she is using to secure an item, and why. It's a little humbling to have your 8 year old son tell you a better knot to use. This book is not just for children, though it's intended for them, it's for anyone who wants to learn how to tie knots and wants to learn in a clear, well presented, easy to read manner and this book is so well written and presented that your children will literally be teaching themselves with it. Knot tying is more than just getting your shoes on in the morning. Making sure your children (and yourself) have a good knowledge base on this subject is invaluable. When this copy wears out, we will be buying another, you can be sure of that!

Knots: Useful and Fun
Our family uses knot tying a lot. It's just an everyday sort of thing for life, boating, swinging, tree houses, pulleys. Every page is glossy with helpful pictures and is full of useful, practical types of knots. For example, the other day we couldn't find our swing hanging instructions, so we used the book as a resource for a swing hitch. Did you know you can actually use lashing to make durable platforms in trees? We had over 400 pounds on one the other day. The book is also full of fun facts that make the book an even better value. I like to give them as birthday gifts and enjoy getting this sort of gift for my children. I highly recommend it.

A very fun and useful book!
Instructions are laid out with engineering precision, but are written for anyone to understand. Also included are idiot-proof pictures as well as plentiful advice on the use and safety of each knot. Great book for ANYONE looking to become familiar with a good variety of knots and their applications. A very fun and useful book!

Fun on the go!
My oldest son loves to take this book in the car with him to work on various knots while riding or while waiting at appointments. He also enjoys using it for projects at home. This book is very well written and I enthusiastically recommend it to anyone wanting their child(ren) to learn a useful skill while having fun!
