"Music washes away the dust of everyday life." Burthold Auerbach
Occasionally there is just one song in a movie that I might want and once in a blue moon I will buy a soundtrack. After hearing “No More Running” by Michael Kiwanuka during the end credits, my mind was made up, I had to have this one. There are the background instrumentals intelligently composed by Dario Marianelli, notably “Tragedy” as “Jess” pushes her way through reporters and gets to her bedroom. Then “In This Shirt” by The Irrepressibles, that plays as “Jess” sits alone on the rooftop. The cheeky lyrics and change to Rock from Disco by Cake to “I Will Survive” is really cool and relevant to the story line. And without a doubt, “Youth” by Daughter as “J. J.” swims out to sea depicts his emotion perfectly and draws you even further into the story. In the spirit of brevity I do not mention every song, but this does not negate them. They were all good. This soundtrack was well planned and thought out. I purchased the movie on DVD as well. The cast was excellent; the story line of such a serious subject matter has just enough humor, in good taste I might add, to lighten the mood and show there is strength in number. I was left with a light heart at the end of the movie as I listened to the lyrics and the guitar playing of “No More Running” and recommend getting both.

Select the CD carefully -- it is confusing
Careful! Great songs but if you're looking for the complete soundtrack to the Long Way Down series, you want to be careful and select the right CD. There are two listed with the same title. On the CD with the two big heads of Ewan and Charley you'll get just some of the songs on one CD. If you buy it you'll be disappointed to find that even the Stereophonics' "Long Way Down" title track isn't there. Where it is, and probably what you want, is the full 2-CD 30-track set by Real World Records (I bought it here at Amazon). It's got the photo of Ewan and Charley standing by the bikes in the desert. It is great!

This is a great road trip album.
Bought it after watching the series for the umpteen time. Very international feel. I bought a used cd here on amazon which played fine. I ripped to to my ipod. It is one of those albums that you can keep listening to.

My husband bought the video and I enjoyed it as much as he did. The background music was lovely and I thought I would be great if I could find the soundtrack. Viola' So pleased.

so I'm not surprised that it is so good!
I agree with "A Busy Mom" who posted above this one although I do buy a lot of songs and soundtracks. I am a big fan and an English major, so Nick Hornby is always on my mind. I wouldn't doubt that he had a part in the soundtrack choice, so I'm not surprised that it is so good!

Long sound down
Great set of tracks! Shame that the main theme track long way down was not on it. But still great album.
