British Antique Furniture: 6th Edition with Prices and Reasons for Value Hardcover – Illustrated, 1 October 2011

This is a review of the 2011 edition - if there is a later edition then some of this critique may not apply. The photos are truly excellent and quite a number of them will be familiar to the connoisseur through . auctions and other publicationsMy only criticisms are that some of the pricing seems a tad ambitious for even a 2011 market which may result from the prices being set by reference to auctions/dealers at the top-end both in primary and secondary dealing such as Sotheby's and Malletts.Surprisingly, he seems to have missed the attribution of a number of pieces to known makers (such as plate 392 which is clearly a Gillows table and is not acknowledged as such). I should also have liked discussion about attribution rather than statements such as "A very neat and decorative stool" (plate 332) - indeed it is but that is not particularly helpful even to the layman.Having said the above, it is a delightful visual reference book and should grace most collector's libraries: just don't read it and think that antiques are a good investment as one might believe from the price-ranges given: buy antiques however for sheer love of form and usefulness!James Richardson, Sydney

Excellent book with clear pictures, good and concisely written with guide on how to value British antiques. Covers many different periods from Queen Anne all the way to Edwardian. Also covers different type of furniture like writing tables, chairs, bookcase, clocks etc.
