I can't see any reason why you couldn't use this nose clip in the shower.

Q: Hi, Looking for something for my wife who's pregnant. She can't handle many smells with fealing nauseous. Would this work?

Well it stops any water from going up my nose when I'm upside down in the kayak so I would say this will work for your wife as well as it is adjustable. (Congratulations by the way)

Q: Why are they not suitable for swimming

I wear mine for swimming and it's fine. It does sometimes slide a little (greasy nose!) and needs readjusting but it's never actually come off. It has totally solved the allergy problem I had developed to whatever is in the water.

Q: Is it suitable for five year old child or is it too big?

I don't know if it will be too big for a five year old and I can say as an adult I can use it fully covering the nose which can be difficult if uncomfortable breathing through mouth only but I can also move it higher up the nose allowing a little space for breathing via nose although no point in this if using for swimming. I don't think a five year old will really like to use it.
