It stays in place thanks to the weight of the phone and the mount. Adjusting the angle is necessary to prevent tilting.

Sorry for your inconvenience, if you change the direction of the detachable mount, you cannot click it into the stand. To use as a continuity camera mount, it need to put the camera face the user, or the phone stand will block your computer screen. For better experoence, you can put our product on the desk and usded as a desk phone stand at your will.

Q: How do I install this mount? Is it a troublesome process?

It is not a troublesome process. Your phone connects to the mount magnetically. If you are just using it as a desk stand, that's all you have to do. You can mount it vertically or horizontally. If you want to use the mount as a continuity camera mount, then it depends on what kind of device you are attaching it to. For a regular monitor, the entire device gets clipped to the top of the monitor. For a laptop, you remove the magnetic portion of the mount & clip that to the top of your laptop screen. The mount comes with very good illustrated instructions to help you.

No, it cannot be installed on a tripod, but you can use it directly on your iMac.
