Excellent tool
Excellent well made product.Useful for measuring the depth of a cavity that has stepped or sloping sides. For this kind of measurement, the tail end of an ordinary caliper just ain't wide enough. The wide (102 mm) shoulders of this tool make it quick and easy to make really accurate measurements. It's not digital though, so you'll need to know how to read them -The 2 minute 'Metric Vernier Caliper Reading' by machiningmoments on YouTube explains this really well. The video shows a caliper rather than a depth gauge, but the scale is the same.

A depth gauge the works when you need it (no batteries required)
Sturdy unit, no battery required just read off the depth with repeatability. Comes with boxed protection to prevent transit damage.

Breaks upon use DO NOT BUY
All though shipping was effective and efficient as usual with amazon what came in the post definitely was not.I purchased this as a cheap alternative to use at work until i was issued with one by my employer. I am sad to regret that this product is nothing more than a few pieces of cheaply cut metal held together with pretty much nothing.I don’t usually leave reviews online but in this situation i simply had to. DO NOT BUY

Very good for the price.
Nicely made and finished but it is made of aluminium and not steel.

Disappointing
First thing I did when I received this was to check it on a ground flat serface. I was disappointed to find that it read 0.12mm instead of zero. I was also struck by the thickness of the housing where the two scales come together for the vernier scale. There was a height difference of over half a mm so it is very difficult to avoid parallax error when reading the scale so you need extreme care to accurately read the scale to 0.02mm (the claimed accuracy). My first inclination was to send it back but I think I would probably pay about £100 for a depth gauge that was as accurate as this one claims to be so I'll keep it, recognising that it reads high and that the accuracy better than 0.1mm is not easy. As others have pointed out the movement is not smooth but I guess I'll live with that too. ...but it was quite cheap.
