Dune: Prophecy: The Complete First Season (Blu-Ray)

Worth waiting for.
This fits into the Dune universe very well. Although it does not follow exactly the book by Brian Herbers and Kevin J Anderson "Sisterhood of Dune", it takes many of the ideas from the novel. For Dune enthusiasts this is a work of love. For those who have little or limited knowledge of Dune this would be like a person who knew nothing about world history buying a book on "The War of 1812," i.e., you know nothing about this universe and so the series may not make much sense. All of the extras that come with the DVDs or Blu-rays make it even more worthwhile with its background material for the HBO series.Looking forward with great anticipation to the continuing series. Season 2 is already committed.

a slow paced drama.
Six episodes. First three or four are slow paced, complicated, some what boring. Little action. Episodes five and six lead you to believe some exciting stuff is coming. The excitement and action doesn't pan out, although these last two episodes were better than the first four. I had to snap out of falling asleep several times while watching. There was some good and impressive filming for the series. They included a bunch of flashbacks without telling you, so you have to figure it out on your own. Not a big deal. In the end you are somewhat let down by the ending, wondering if there is a season 2 to explain more.

Sisterhood of Dune
A REALLY GOOD TAKE ON THE DUNE UNIVERSE. WELL WORTH WATCHING.

Dune taking its time
Based on son Brian Herbert's Sisterhood of Dune, this is a prequal to Frank Herbert's epic books. Having read most of Frank's books and having seen the 3 movie versions, this is a slower paced highly political saga, and while politics has always been a strong theme, it is central here. We learn the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisters and their manipulation of events. The world-building is excellent, the acting outstanding, and it is similar enough to other renditions to feel familiar. This is a very complex story that is occasionally hard to follow. I recommend watching with headphones on to get the nuanced dialogue. I'm looking forward to Season 2.
